WIS Scholastic International Schools Book Fair

Friday, January 13, 2010

Dear Parents,

We are excited to announce that we are having our first ever WIS Book Fair! It is sponsored by the Scholastic International Schools Book Club, with which many of our students are familiar. The fair will be held in the Zielińskiego Campus Theater on January 18 - 19, 2012!

This will be a non-traditional Book Fair with three options for participation:
  • Shop for books online with your credit card referring to the Scholastic International Schools leaflet. The books you order will be delivered to the school.
  • Shop for books at the Book Fair with cash only and take home your purchases that da
    y. We will have over 400 books available for Ages 0+ – 13+!!! (Schedule on back of page)
  • Shop for books using both methods!

You can check which books are available for your child by consulting the enclosed leaflet. In addition, you can go to the Scholastic International Schools Book Club website, where you will find even more titles:

Prices are listed in British Pounds Sterling and are subject to VAT and Processing Fees of 15%. You will need to order your books online by Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Books will be delivered to the school about two weeks later and they will be distributed to students then.

Please remember that every book you buy from the Scholastic International Schools Book Club helps us to earn much-needed books for our library and classrooms!

Not sure which books to buy for your child? Why not check out the leaflet with him or her? In addition, you may want to consider the following titles:

Share! By Anthea Simmons: It’s no fun sharing with Baby! He dribbles on toys, tears books, and chews up jigsaw puzzles. But there are some things it’s nice to share with Baby – like snuggly bedtimes with Mom! Ages 0+

Farmer Duck by Martia Waddell: While the poor duck works, the lazy farmer lies in bed ... until on day the farm animals decide to strike back! Full of animal noises, this is a classic read-aloud treat. Ages 3+
Five Minutes’ Peace by Jill Murphy: When you’re a busy mother like Mrs. Large, what’s the chance of finding five minutes’ peace for a relaxing bubble bath? Not much – in fact 3 minutes 45 seconds is more like it! Ages 5+

The Butterfly Lion by Michel Morpurgo: Deep in the burning African veld, a boy rescues a lion cub. Then they are torn apart. How will their story end? Ages 7+

Goddess Girls: Artemis the Loyal by Joan Holub: Banned from the Olympics because they are girls, Artemis and the goddesses fight for the right to compete. Will they win, or be sidelined yet again? Ages 9+
The War to End All Wars: World War I by Russell Freedman: From the tangledalliances that led to war in the trenches and to the first modern weapons, this book surveys the war in factual text and archival photos. Ages 11+

Falling Fast by Sophie McKenzie: When River auditions for the role of Juliet, she is smitten by the troubled boy playing Romeo. But the course of true love never runs smoothly … Ages 13+
